Today, on August 9th World Indigenous People’s Day, the Dedicated Grant Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Global Project reaffirms the importance of recognizing, respecting, and honoring Indigenous rights, traditions, land tenure, management, and ways of life. We would also like to take this moment to celebrate the work of the DGM Global Learning fellows and their communities by elevating their message to the world and highlighting the diversity of Indigenous and local community-based solutions to the climate crisis.

“Local community solutions are essential to responding to the climate crisis and in the fight against poverty, to safeguard the environment, and to ensure the protection of all. On World Indigenous People’s Day, lets raise awareness of the environmental issues that are so crucial to us. If someone has planted a tree may it be known that they have done something well in their life.”

“Today I am here to make a tribute to those who are native to this land, guardians of the waters, of the land, and of the forests, which are being directly impacted by ungoverned deforestation and climate change in Brazil. On behalf of Analia Tuxá, Giba Tuxá, I salute all Indigenous people of Brazil. Congratulations for the struggle, resistance, and resilience, congratulations on the World Indigenous People’s Day.”
